A letter from the CCCPRD Chairman

The Campbell County Community Public Recreation District was formed by the Campbell County School District Board of Trustees in July of 2001.  The purpose of the recreation district is to support programs to increase community participation in a variety of recreational endeavors. Funding for the program is through the recreation mill levy imposed pursuant to W.S. 18-9-201(b), which allows communities in Wyoming to form and fund Recreation Districts.

To date we have imposed a 1 mill levy and have approved over $24 million in funding for recreational projects for the citizens of Campbell County.  The funding is provided to worthy projects during two funding cycles, once in November and again in April. For further information on the nuts and bolts of our operation, please visit the link to our by-laws.

About 70% of our funding has been used in-district with the remaining 30% used for non-district programs.  Any citizen or member of an organization can apply for funding for their recreation project or activity.  To be funded programs must be recreational in nature and available to the public.

We provide funding for elementary summer programs in Campbell County, as well as funding for various recreational clubs and programs offered during the summer and before and after school during the school year for the secondary schools.  We formed a collaborative partnership, a first for Campbell County, with the Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department and have funded a variety of programs benefiting thousands of our children.  We also collaborate with the public library, CAM-PLEX, and other government agencies, as well as countless private organizations in Campbell County.

In 2007 the CCCPRD Board voted to contribute $18.5 million to the construction of a new recreation center in conjunction with the city and county.  The new recreation center will include an indoor running track with the center area available for tennis, soccer and football.  The indoor facility attached to the new recreation center will allow the community recreational opportunities during the winter months when the weather can be uncooperative for these activities.  Approximately $1.25 million will be set aside each funding cycle (every six months).

I am proud to be a member of the CCCPRD Board.  I look forward to continuing to be a part of providing more and more wonderful and diverse opportunities for all the citizens of Campbell County.  CCCPRD is proud to be supporting many diverse recreational activities for the people of Campbell County.

Sincerely,

Steve Pecha
Chairman, Campbell County Community Public Recreation District
